School life at Hobsonville

Schools are a hub of activity and there is a lot of information for our new parents to digest and remember! So for our busy ‘new’ and current families here is a guide to all things “Hobsonville” contained in one central area. So have a read through and if you have any questions please feel free to contact, in person or by email, our friendly team in the school office or your child’s teacher.

Our new, stylish Uniform

Hobsonville School has a compulsory junior and senior uniform and our families are asked to ensure that it is worn correctly at all times, with all items clearly named.  The uniform can be purchased from our supplier, ArgyleOnline, see below for more information on where and how to purchase.

Hats

Hobsonville is a ‘Sun Smart School’. So we have introduced a ‘compulsory’ wide-brim hat for our junior students (Yrs 0–6) and a bucket hat for our seniors (Yrs 7–8), inline with our sun protection policy. They can both be purchased from ArgyleOnline, with the wide-brim hat also available to purchase from the school office. A beanie is available for the winter months.

Footwear & Socks

You can opt for navy blue or black shoes OR sandals for the summer months. Socks can be black or navy. Jandals, crocs and boots are not deemed acceptable footwear at Hobsonville School. On specific sports or sports training days (i.e. athletics, cross country etc) children can wear their sports shoes. Footwear and socks are NOT supplied by Argyle, they can be purchased from retail outlets.

Jewellery & Hair

Wearing jewellery at school is not allowed unless it is a watch or cultural item. Earrings should be small studs only. We recommend that long hair be tied back with a neutral hairband (i.e. skin colour, navy or black) while at school.

Whare (house) Group t-shirt

When students start at Hobsonville School, they are placed in one of four whare (house) group’s: MAUNGA (green), AWA (blue), WAKA (red) and KĀHINGA (yellow) – siblings are placed together in the same group. Whare groups come together on school sports and cultural days where students are expected to wear their whare t-shirts. These can be purchased through KINDO Shop, samples are available to try for size in the school office. If you are unsure which group your child belongs to, please ask your child’s teacher or the school office.

Sports Uniform

Our new sports uniform is now available to purchase through our supplier, ArgyleOnline. We understand the financial challenges 2020 has had on all our families, so for 2021 the sports uniforms will be optional. However, we understand that some families will want to buy the sports uniform as their child may get plenty of use out of it over several years and possibly across several sporting disciplines, then either keep it as a sporting memento, or sell it on second hand.

There are three options:

  • Sports T-shirt: Norwest sport (Y5-8), except basketball and girls netball, PE sessions every Thursday and optional for Hobsonville School Sports events e.g. Athletics and Cross Country.
  • Sports Singlet: Basketball, out-of-school (Y1-8) and in-school (Y7-8). Touch, out-of-school (Y1-8) and in-school (Y5-8). In-school Norwest competitions such as Volleyball, Tag and Rippa.
  • Netball Dress: Netball, out-of- school (Y1-8) and in-school Norwest competition (Y5-8).

Order process: purchase the sports uniform from argyleonline.co.nz per instructions below, a payment plan is available if required (NB: there is a 5 week order turnaround). The school office has a set of all 3 sports uniforms (of varying sizes) for your child to try on during office hours (8am-3pm). If purchasing of a sports uniform is not feasible for your family at this time, the school is offering a sports uniform hire option in 2021 at a cost of $10 per sport, per season.

Second-hand Uniform

Second-hand uniforms are available to purchase from Hobby’s Whānau & Friends (PTC) who sell our donated second-hand items. Please contact them by email if you are interested: office@hobsonville.school.nz

At the end of each term, or when there is sufficient second-hand stock, a sale will be held outside the staff room run by our fantastic Whānau & Friends, parents. These sales are advertised via newsletter, “The Hobsonville Hub,” emailed and placed on our Facebook page closer to the date. If you have any second-hand uniforms to donate to the school, please hand your clean clothing items to the school office.

Lost Property

Clothing left at school is collected and stored in the large container held in the lost property area, which is located in the school office near the Health Room (sick bay). Equally check in your child’s learning area lost property box. Please name all school clothing as this makes it easier to retrieve lost items. Any unclaimed items are sold by Hobby’s Whānau & Friends (PTC) at the end of each term to help raise funds for the school. Smaller valuables, for example, glasses are held at the office.

Stationery

All students require stationery for the start of each new school year. If a student starts half way through the school year please liaise with your child’s teacher to discuss their requirements.

Buy supplies. Earn rewards. Help our School.

We are part of the OfficeMax School Rewards Programme, whereby Hobsonville is rewarded simply by our families purchasing back-to-school stationery or supplies for their home office. The school can then use the rewards to source things required for our classrooms or for students in need. If you wish to purchase the stationery elsewhere, a list for your child’s year can be obtained from the OfficeMax website.

How to order stationery with OfficeMax

  1. GO TO: myschool.co.nz
  2. SEARCH & ENTER: Hobsonville School
  3. Then follow the simple online ordering prompts.
