Hobby’s Whānau & Friends (PTC)
MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO YOUR CHILD’S EDUCATION
Hobby’s Whānau and Friends (HW&F) is a committee of dedicated like-minded school parents. We volunteer our time and energy to fundraise throughout the year to cover items that benefit our students and to organise fun-filled events and experiences for our children. In the past his has included: shade sails for the playgrounds, basketball hoop systems, swimming pool upgrades, beautification of the school grounds and much more. We’re always looking for new people to help, and we know how precious your time is, so we have the attitude that ‘many hands make light work’. There are plenty of ways you can get involved (on the sausage sizzle at the Disco, or maybe you have expertise in IT or building?). There’s no pressure – you choose how much you contribute. Come and be part of our amazing supportive school community!
WANT TO JOIN US?
Whānau & Friends begins the school year with a wine and cheese evening to welcome new members – always a fun event! We also hold meetings twice a term on Tuesday evenings in the school staffroom – the dates are on the website in the events calendar. We welcome new members at any time – whether you have a particular skill set or are simply keen to help out and make a tangible difference to your child’s school. The more Whānau & Friends, the merrier… so we’d love to hear from you if you’re keen to be involved.

Whiria te Tāngata
“Ma te pa harakeke te rito ka tipu.”
Everyone nurtures the growth of the child.
Whiria te Tāngata is a group of ten schools working together in a Community of Learning in West Auckland. This initiative is designed to improve outcomes for all students and is funded by the Ministry of Education. The group includes eight full primary schools (Yrs 1–8), and two co-educational secondary schools (Yrs 9–15). All the primary schools have medium to large rolls, with the largest at almost 700 students. In total over 5,500 students attend the schools within the Community of Learning.
While eight of the schools in the group are long established serving semi-rural or city fringe communities, two are both newly established schools that are yet to reach full capacity (Hobsonville Point Primary and Secondary Schools). The significant housing development and emerging industry across the area has contributed to significant roll growth in most of the schools – although, the impact of this roll growth on achievement data is still being investigated. Across the group, students are generally highly engaged in their learning, making good progress and achieving positive educational outcomes. While there are pockets of inequity, student achievement in reading and mathematics is generally good across our community. The group’s overall achievement levels in these subjects is either close to, or meet the Ministry of Education’s goal of having 85% of students achieving at or above the curriculum expectations.
We aim to achieve this by working together on the following important drivers:
- Collaborative Teacher Efficacy –
Building teacher efficacy in collaborative ways of working - Culturally Responsive Pedagogy –
Embedding culturally responsive pedagogy - Learner Agency –
Developing learner agency - Powerful Learning Connections –
Strengthening learning connections with parents, families, whānau, āko - Powerful Community Connections –
Developing a local curriculum utilizing the context provided by the local community.
