We warmly invite you to visit us at Hobsonville School to see if we are the ‘right fit’ for your child. We recommend booking an appointment to meet with the Principal (or Deputy Principal’s) to have a chat, walk around our school and pick up an Enrolment Pack. By visiting our school you’ll gain more insights about us, our culture, values and what we stand for. All students MUST be enrolled with the school before they can start. For more information on how to enrol your child, please refer to the Online Enrolment section.
Enrol at Hobsonville School
Hobsonville School Enrolment Scheme
To preserve the current optimum size of our school, we operate an enrolment scheme. Students living inside our school zone have automatic entitlement to enrolment. If you are not in-zone, refer to the HOBSONVILLE SCHOOL ZONE section to see if you meet one of the criteria.
Pre-enrolling New Entrants
If your child is starting school, they can be pre-enrolled well in advance of their fifth birthday. This helps us to plan ahead and to offer new entrants an opportunity to enjoy ‘pre-entry school visits’. Generally children turning five between January and Easter are considered Year 1 – and children turning five from May onwards are considered Year 0.
New Entrants Enrolment Procedure
Kia Ora and Welcome to the New Entrant Learning Space
Approximately three weeks before your child’s fifth birthday, please phone the school office on: (09) 416 8619 ext 200, to make an appointment to meet with the Principal (or Deputy Principals) and a visit into the entry learning space. During this time you and your child will meet the teachers in the learning space. We ask that you bring your child to this meeting.
Most children are familiar with leaving their parents when attending pre school and therefore settle into the school learning environment confidently.
On their first day of school, please accompany your child into the learning space and connect them with the teacher. Talk to your child about being independent when they start school.
We ask that all students are settled in the learning spaces by 8.45am as the school day beings at 8.50am.
Talk to your child about meeting them on the court after school at 3.00pm. The teachers always connect the children with their caregivers when they first start school.
Children can start on their fifth birthday or any day thereafter, but not before they turn five.
A New Entrant Open Morning is offered to parents of five-year-olds who are starting school on the first day of Term 1. This morning is led by the Principal, Deputy Principal and Learning Leader. Together they will be able to answer any questions you may have about learning and the routines and procedures at our school.
Please click on the link to view our Welcome Pack.
To provide the best possible learning environment and use of school resources, we strongly recommend that your child doesn’t start school after the first week in December. We find that the end of the year, with its many activities and celebrations, isn’t the best start for most children. Your child is able to stay at kindergarten, playcentre or other day care centres until they start school. Once you have confirmed your child’s school start date, then you should inform your child’s kindergarten, playcentre or day care centre of his or her last day there.
